We live in an era of virtual reality that penetrates every single area of our life. All these cyber technologies are so magical in their relevance to the inner world of imagery and imagination. They allow for creating an electronic representation of typical things, of everyday actions. Sex is no exception.

The phrase “cyber sex” appeared relatively recently in connection with the development of new computer technologies. It includes a very wide range of phenomena from computer erotic games and porn sites to special emulators and costumes. But, in fact, it existed before the era of computers. To be precise, erotic fantasies, dreams, the use of pornographic literature, films, and different forms of striptease can also be considered as varieties of virtual sex. But during the computer era, virtual eroticism begins to grow like a snowball, threatening to supplant traditional forms of sex. In addition, the very involvement of a person’s psycho-energetics is much greater in a computer interactive environment than during the passive contemplation of erotic images.

Is Cyber Sex a Tantric Practice?

At first glance, cybersex might seem nothing different from what we are used to calling “masturbation” as it’s based on self-stimulation and self-pleasuring through chats and webcams. Besides, some scientists and spiritualists believe that dealing with a virtual partner is the same as dealing with a visual, sound, or tactile image, so that the second subtle body, as well as the complementary energy, is absent. Thus, according to their opinion, cybersex has nothing to do with the elements of the Tantric transformation of energies. Here the energy either flows into the surrounding space, relieving the emerging sexual tension, or is being actively sucked away by a subtle material-parasite. In other words, the exchange of prana, or life force, is impossible and the whole structure of sexual energy interaction is violated.

But don’t jump to conclusions! Cyber sex is about self-massaging areas of tension. It’s about pulling, pressing, tapping, touching, feathering, rubbing, and gently massaging the chakra energy centers in front of the screen. Sexologists insist that virtual sex has a lot of advantages. For example, it develops imagination very well, helps one to investigate their own body, and removes different complexes. And many spiritualists agree on that cybersex could be an unforgettable Tantric adventure, where interactive fantasies are raised to new heights. Virtual Tantra is a new medium in the sexual arena that teaches us new ways to relate to our bodies, sexuality, and art. This type of love confirms that there is really no end to the depth of the erotic opening.

The Professional’s Opinion

It’s well known that self-love has become a Tantric practice. Based on this point, cyber sex is a solo technique of sexual energy exchange. “Through Tantra, we can come to understand that we are ourself the source of sexual energy and that the other is only triggering what is already in us. At the deepest Tantric levels, then, there is no longer me, you, or the attraction between us. All are connected in a global Oneness (or in a cosmic orgy, if that is your preference,)” says Ivo Quartiroli in his book The Digitally Divided Self: Relinquishing our Awareness to the Internet. So, cybersex is broadening the possibilities of sexual energy exchange and transformation. It doesn’t really matter on the path of self-discovery if your partner is a human or a sexual toy.

Ivo Quartiroli assures, “Through cybersex meetings, which are almost exclusively with partners who are strangers, we can even approach a Tantric attitude where young, old, beautiful, ugly, thin or fat no longer matter. We flow with the pure sexual energy. We can even export that same attitude to our offline life. Tantra is about “not choosing”, merging with the sexual energy in itself. Preferences about body shape are seen as the mental constructions that they are. But widening our connection beyond the mental preferences can happen only after we have a matured heart center and the capacity to fully experience our bodily sensations. It does not support either factor.”

And, Finally…

The essence of our existence is sexual. No matter if we are rich or poor, male or female, attractive and bright or modest and shy, we are a potential sexual energy, both pleasurable and powerful. It’s up to you whether to choose cyber sex or stick to more traditional types of love, but either way, your sexual energy has to be shared. Don’t keep it inside.
