Memorial Day is nearly here, kicking off the start of summer break – and that includes beach days, porch drinking, tanning, and possibly my favorite thing of all… festivals! Mysteryland USA is the place you have to be for Memorial Day weekend. It’s by far one of the best festivals on the east coast, if not in the whole country, despite only being in it’s second year!
1. The lineup is SICK!
With headliners like Diplo, Empire of the Sun, Porter Robinson, Dillon Francis, and Adam Beyer… Mysteryland has one of the most incredible, dance-able lineups for your auditory pleasure. There’s plenty of beats to get you grooving, whether you like to jam out to some chill tones or amp it up with heavy house beats. Whether you like to dance in the sun or lie down and chill out in the shade, you’ll find the perfect tunes across several stages to keep you in the perfect mindset all weekend.
2. You can find new music.
The best musical experiences at a festival are surprisingly not always at the stage of your favorite band. Wandering around and hearing new music opens you to sub-genres you never even heard about, and you’ll instantly fall in love with musical genius you didn’t know existed. Mysteryland has all spectrums of music from the dance sphere, from headliners and main stage artists like Porter Robinson and Netsky that you’ve probably heard before, to lesser known and underground artists doing their thing across several stages. One of my personal favorites is Adam Beyer’s Drumcode stage, which brings the best in techno, with super smooth, groovy, dance-worthy beats. If you’re up for something a little (or a lot) harder, you have to check out Q-dance, with totally hard-hitting beats, fast-paced BPM’s, and intense sounds. (With one of my favorites, Noisecontrollers!) Bassheads will love The Boat stage with the hottest bass, dub step, and trap artists including Savoy, Gramatik, Griz, and even Beats Antique. There’s tons more unique stages, like those hosted by Brooklyn’s Verboten and NYC’s Webster Hall, to keep your senses engaged and your body moving all weekend long.
3. It’s at a legendary venue.
Mysteryland is celebrating it’s second year at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, NY, the site of the iconic 1969 Woodstock festival. This is the same site where our cool hippie parents rocked out to the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix,, Janis Joplin, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, and so many more legendary artists who paved the way for music as it is today. It’s full of history, memories, and good vibes. It’s a musical legacy that’s now evolved for our generation’s electronic music.
4. Camping festivals are AWESOME.
Camping festivals have a TOTALLY different vibe than fests that run for just the day, and also make for a TON of variety in your experience. Staying for the weekend means you develop real, genuine, awesome relationships with the people around you – and creates this community vibe that you’re all in this together. It also means that the party doesn’t stop once the music goes quiet for the night. Aside from chillin, drinking, and playing beer pong by your tents, there are exclusive activities just for campers. There’s night time parties, a silent disco (tune in to a live DJ with headphones), dance brunches, old school summer camp games, giant drinking Jenga and Connect Four, inflatable slides, and Deep House yoga classes. Seriously, there might be nothing better in the world than waking up to some music-fueled yoga then dancing your ass off during brunch.
5. You’ll meet cool people
The campgrounds and festival are home-for-the-weekend to over 25,000 like-minded 21+ festival goers. Among them, you’ll find EDM lovers with chill vibes, party vibes, and all the variation in between. You’ll meet your best friend or boyfriend for the weekend, and have an unforgettable time filled with euphoric memories you can’t necessarily write home about. Some of those friendships might last just the weekend… or even just an hour… while others could become long-term friends or festival friends you run into all summer long. Whoever you meet, you’ll be sure to share some smiles and laughs under the moonlit sky with music filled air.
6. Culture, art, and creativity
Mysteryland isn’t just about the music or vibes. They’ve created an entire culture around art and creative expression. From over-the-top stages to unique art installations throughout the festival grounds, Mysteryland transports you to a fantasy world of imagination and inspiration.
7. It’s the longest running electronic music festival
Mysteryland got it’s start overseas in 1993, and started expanding to other areas in 2011. You might think, why does it matter how long they’ve been around? But, their longevity and fabulous reputation means they’re doing it right! They’ve been around the block, know what works and what doesn’t, and have crafted a totally unique festival experience that will blow you away.
