The Kama Sutra Pleasure Balm comes in a handful of different flavors and I was given the chance to try out the Spearmint flavor. It is a water based gel to be used during foreplay to increase sensitivity and create a cooling sensation for all parties involved. However, my partner and I found it to be sticky and lacking sensation. Even so, it might be right for you and your partner – especially if you prefer thicker lubricants!

The Experience

I’m always looking for things that can increase my pleasure whether it be with a toy or lubricant. This pleasure balm by Kama Sutra was right up my alley. I was expecting the spearmint flavor/smell to be over powering and I was happy to find that it didn’t overpower my sense of smell at all. The tube is small and green, easily hidden or put in a cabinet with other types of gels. On their website, Kama Sutra describes the spearmint flavor as “purely refreshing,” which made me expect a cooling sensation, similar to the cooling sensation you get from peppermint chapstick or Icey Hot, neither of which I received.

I applied the gel to my nipples, inner thighs, and the crooks of my neck, three areas where I seem to find the most sensitive during foreplay. I waited to see if I would develop a reaction to the gel or if I would feel the cooling sensation, but the gel just dried very quickly and became almost sticky. I immediately had to wash my hands after a second application because it felt like I had elmer’s glue on my fingers. I waited about fifteen more minutes before my skin started to itch from the dryness and took a shower.

I thought that maybe it was just me, maybe I wasn’t having the reaction I expected because I wasn’t sensitive enough, so my FWB and I gave it try during foreplay and I finally was able to taste it as well. The taste wasn’t anything to write home about, there was an underlying hint of spearmint, but I couldn’t get past the consistency and if I waited till it was almost dried there wasn’t anything left to taste. Kama Sutra’s website does state that the pleasure balm is not a flavored lubricant, so please don’t try to use this during play as a lubricant. My partner also didn’t notice any type of cooling sensation, his biggest issue was the consistency of the gel, he thought it was way too thick to be considered a pleasure balm.

Overall

Honestly, I will not be using this again, it has been cursed to the bottom of my toy box never to be seen again. My biggest issue is that it doesn’t do what it’s marketed to do. Myself nor my partner experienced any sort of sensation caused by the gel and the stickiness it left in it’s wake left little to be desired. I like the idea of it, but I just wasn’t wowed by the product itself. That doesn’t mean it’s not right for you though, especially if you prefer a thicker, gel-like lubricant.
