While I naturally prefer a water-based lubricant for my sexual endeavors, I do believe that a silicone based lube has a time and place. I may not be able to use them with my silicone toys and might have to lay a towel down to avoid staining my sheets, but sometimes, this is worth the hassle. With the Moist Silicone lubricant, I found myself enjoying it more than some of the other silicone lubes I’ve tried in the past. It’s an inexpensive and great product at the same time. My hopes weren’t set very high for the lube because of the price point and the fact that it was silicone, but it definitely did its job and well. It may not be the best lube out there, but it’s a fabulous silicone lube – and as always, a great step up from KY Jelly.

Naturally High-Maintenance

As I mentioned above, I personally prefer water-based lubes because they’re low maintenance compared to a silicone lube. Firstm silicone lubricant can degrade your silicone toys. A lot of the toys I own are made out of silicone, so I can’t use them with a silicone lube. You also have to be careful to lay down a towel, because silicone stains. I threw on a set of my old cotton sheets so I wouldn’t have to worry about a towel – but washing them didn’t remove the excess like it would with a water-based lube. This didn’t just limit my use of it on my sheets, but also affected my lingerie choices. I also can’t use it when I want to be spontaneous or wake up my hookup in the middle of the night. I can’t imagine saying, “Wake up and have sex with me… but let me put a towel down first.” Some recommended that this lube be used for a massage oil, but I couldn’t handle that residue being all over my body and then potentially all over clothes and bedding.

Water-based lubes don’t tend to last as long as a silicone, so sometimes it’s worth it the hassle to have something that’s stronger and long-lasting. This lube was definitely thicker than water-based lubes and it left behind an oily residue. Since it’s not water-based, it is also water-proof. It’s perfect for when you’re in the shower with your hookup. I loved that I didn’t have to give up lube, and that this one definitely stuck around like I needed it to. It is supposed to come off with soap and water, but I noticed I still had a leftover film on my skin when I dried off. I also had to clean my plastic toys twice to get the residue off. It was great that it was long lasting, but it was almost a little too long.

Multipurpose

My favorite part about silicone lube is how many things you can use it for. It does make for extremely smooth and easy sex, especially if your man is extremely well-endowed and is a tight fit. Also, if you’re thinking about trying anal sex, this lube would be perfect. It lasts a lot longer than water-based lubes and the thicker consistency makes it a smoother ride. Not only is this a great lube to make sex smoother, but it’s also a great lube for costumes. That skin tight cat woman costume that you sweat trying to get on? A drop or two of this and it will slip right on (don’t judge me for my 21-year old costume decisions). I slipped my old costume on so easily that I was pissed off no one had told me about this when I was struggling three years ago. Some also recommended using it as a massage oil but, as I stated above, I wouldn’t. The residue left behind isn’t like a lavender massage oil that is going to smell amazing and leave your skin feeling soft, it’s going to have you taking a shower and making your partner scrub you down until it’s gone. My staple lubricant might be a water-based lube but I definitely think this is a lube you need to own on top of your favorite. It’s inexpensive and is very useful to own.

Pros & Cons

Overall

I may not be a huge fan of silicone-based lubricants but I definitely think this is an amazing one to own. It definitely left behind a residue, even after washing with soap and water once, but it eventually went away and I didn’t notice after some time went by. You also want to be careful where and when you use it because it can stain your favorite bra and sheet set. There might be a silicone lube out there that is so amazing it can convert me from water-based but for now, I’ll hang onto this bottle for when I need a longer-lasting lube, one I can use in water, or need to put on slick latex. I definitely think it would be difficult to find such a nice silicone lube for around $12-$15 like the Moist Silicone.
