When my lovely editor sent me some new goodies, including Sustain’s Organic Lavender Lube, I couldn’t wait to get down and dirty with them. As a hippie and Boulder, Colorado babe myself, the fact that this lube is not only organic but vegan and not tested on animals I was all about it! I was a little skeptical when it said scented, since generally things that are scented should not go near vaginas, especially not my oh so sensitive to everything one.

The Experience

As a lover of all things organic, I was super excited for Sustain’s Organic Lavender Lube, though a little scared of it being scented. My partner and I both smelled it though and neither of us found the scent overwhelming nor did we find the texture unappealing. I tried it out on my hand to get a feel for the consistency and everything looked normal, though perhaps a little thicker than the lubes I’m used to. I’d say the consistency is not as thick, not even close, to something like neosporin, but it’s definitely staying put on my hand where I spread it out.

I spread it on my naughty bits as we got down to business and for about 10 minutes, everything went well, then it started to get sticky, not sticky as in glue like, but sticky as in it was definitely time to re-apply! This, I did not like. I’m a squirter and  so usually, I never have to reapply with the mix of lube and my own lube so to speak, but this lube did not hold up well to my squirting and since it was a new partner, I was not happy to have to stop and re-apply.

That being said, it did leave my skin nice and moisturized, though it defintely left a lubey scent, as I guess the lavender wore off. Since It wore off during use, I didn’t really have any reason to clean up, other than the post-coital shower, which I came out of feeling completely clean and normal.

Despite my positive experience with the product, reviewers on Amazon have complained that this lubricant caused burning sensitivity. We’re not sure which chemical could be causing this… but some people may experience sensitivities like those described!

Pros & Cons

Overall

I wanted to love Sustain’s Organic Lavender Lube, but in the end it turns out I just liked it. I haven’t tried it with solo play yet, but since I’m quicker that way, I have a feeling it will be just right for that purpose and not need re-applying. This is not a lube I would recommend if you like rough, quick sex or anal, since all of those types of sex need some really good long lasting lube. I give this lube a B- for penetration usage, but the journey is still out on using it for masturbation.

If organic, vegan, gluten-free lubes are important to you, then this one is a good choice for what else I’ve tried in this market, but it’s just not the product that I need for my rough and fast sex life.
