I am not an anal newbie, but I wouldn’t call myself a seasoned expert either. Anal play and I are acquaintances, not besties. I have used plugs and dildoes, but never beads. So, the 11 inches of insertable length on Tantus’s Progressive Vibrating Anal Beads intimated me. Where is that all going to go? Well, it never all went in me – but I still found these high-end beauties to be well-designed, pleasurable, and with satisfying vibrations – so long as you can handle a little extra length and girth back there.

Design

The four beads are graduated in size, going from ¾” to 1 ¾”, and spaced about an inch apart so you can slowly increase the intensity. The base is flared so it will never get sucked in and you have an easy handle for removal. Because the toy is very flexible, I had to push from the bottom of whatever bead was going in to slide it in. A nice things about this toy is that you can choose how deep/thick you want to go and can play differently each time. Sometimes I just wanted a teaser and went to the first bead. Another time I wanted it deeper and went to the third.

As with any anal play: lube lube lube, lube is your friend. Silicone lube can damage this toy because it’s made of silicone as well, so I recommend a safe, paraben-free water-based lube for your sensitive back door. Check out some of our favorites here.

Vibration & Power

I enjoyed using this toy while using another to stimulate my clit. I definitely prefer having the vibrations within the anal toy rather than not at all – but if you’re not into that, the bullet that powers the vibrations is removable. The bullet has three speeds. The highest speed delivers a pulsing vibration rather than a steady stream. The vibrations are light to mid-level, and are most strongly felt the more you insert the toy, as they are centered at the base and larger beads. It was nice to feel the vibrations at the base of my vulva. One thing I didn’t like about the bullet is that you have to unscrew it to turn it off. Pressing the button on the bottom changes the setting, but you have to disconnect contact with the watch batteries for it to stop buzzing. At the end of an orgasm, that was sometimes too much to think about.

Cleaning

With an anal toy, you want to think about pre- and post-cleaning. The deeper you go, the more I would recommend cleaning out the tubes first – either by going to the bathroom or with your preferred version of enema. I have never used an enema so I can’t speak well on their safety. I’ve always preferred indulging in different toys on a whim, but you can make planning sexy if you have to. That is, if you don’t want to clean up some poo. You guys, sometimes in anal play, shit happens. And it happened to me. Here are some resources for cleaning up before anal play. That brings me to the next issue: cleaning. This toy is made of a satiny-soft silicone that is hypoallergenic, eco-friendly, bleachable, bailable, and dishwasher safe. You can very easily clean it thoroughly by putting it through the dishwasher or boiling it – just be sure to remove the bullet first. Because I live with family, I was not about to go putting this through the dishwasher. I washed it in hot soapy water and also used my Diva Cup Wash, which is fragrance-free and safe to use on silicone. You could also use your favorite toy cleaner. I recommend putting on some rubber gloves to wash it off, or go for it bare handed but be sure to wash your hands very well afterwards. Butt-bacteria is good for your butt and bad for every other orifice. I washed it again and again, scrubbing with my gloved-hands, because I was having trouble getting the poo smell off after contamination. If you don’t have the poo problem, this toy cleans quite easily. Butt be careful.

Conclusion

The Tantus Progressive Vibrating Anal Beads is definitely not a beginner’s toy. If you’re new to anal play, start with finger stimulation, move onto small plugs, and then you can consider these bad boys. I had never tried vibrating anal toys before, and found I enjoyed that sensation. I will definitely be using them again. It’s a high-quality toy with a nice design and satisfying vibrations! A more experienced user may be able to manipulate the bendy beads to stimulate the vagina, and people with prostates may find an extra level of fun. So, give those things a try and report back in the comments!
