The Cage BDSM Community website

We’re all just looking for our people. A group that shares our wants and desires. A space that understands our perspective and encourages us. Being drawn together by common experiences is at the very core of what it means to be a person. When it comes to more intimate inclinations it can be easier to find this sense of belonging online. For BDSM folks an online community called The Cage could be just what you’re looking for.

The Cage is a unique online platform designed by kinky people for kinky people. It’s a virtual space where members can connect with users from all over the world that are into all things BDSM. It has a lot of familiar features that you would expect to find on a social networking site. There are lots of ways to interact with the community and express who you are and what you might be looking for.

Signing Up for The Cage

It’s easy to get started with a free account. Head to thecage.co and tap the Register button in the top right-hand corner. You need a username, email, password, and to select your general location. They also ask you to select the gender that you identify as but you’re not limited to Male or Female here. You can choose, gender fluid, trans, agender, and a few other more inclusive options. Then you’ll receive an email to verify the account. When you click the verification link you’ll be asked to provide a phone number so an automated system can call you with a verification code. Once you’ve popped in the code that the lovely robo voice whispers in your ear you’re all set.

Now the fun can start! Your profile is where you can really express yourself, let people know who you are, and generally introduce yourself to the community. It can be as detailed or as mysterious as you like. I started with a very bare-bones profile as I was just starting to explore The Cage and got 7 likes in the first few minutes, so I’d say it’s made up of a pretty responsive group of people. I’d wager if you’re willing to share a little more about yourself, you’ll get even more enticing responses. The Cage breaks it down into a few sections, you’ve got About me, BDSM and me, Limits, and What’s New. So there’s plenty of space to talk about who you are, what your experiences with BDSM are, and your boundaries. It’s a great setup to prioritize transparency and communication right from the start.

On a free account you can add up to 3 pictures, they could be of yourself, or things you’re interested in, or you can skip that altogether. So no pressure to share your face if you’re not comfortable. There’s also a fun option to include an audio clip. Some people use it to just say hello, others add a bit of music, or get creative and start to set the scene.

Who is on The Cage

After scrolling through a number of profiles I think there’s a big mix of people who have years of experience in the BDSM lifestyle and those that are just starting to explore and looking for a comfortable space to learn. Everyone seems to be fairly open about what they are looking for, there’s a sense of authenticity, and wanting to respect everyone’s time by being sincere and clear.

There have to be tens of thousands of members on here. The Cage is international so you’ll find people from all over the world. If you’re the proactive type you can search through the users by clicking on the Members button. You can narrow your search by gender, orientation, role, age, and region. But if you’re more passive like me, you won’t have to wait long before someone likes your profile or sends you a message. I’ve had a number of propositions all ready and my profile is next to blank! That being said the messages I have received have all been respectful and upfront. So far nobody comes across as creepy or aggressive. The Cage has an open and welcoming vibe to it, the creators work diligently to make sure the site is bot and troll-free and it really contributes to the authentic feel. The site is also ad-free. It’s against the rules to solicit money or any transactional services, including financial domination.

Make Connections on The Cage

There are lots of ways to connect with other users. You can like someone’s profile and hope they like you back, send a mail message, or if you’re interested in more you can scroll through the Personals. Here you’ll find tons of ads from users broken down into categories like Dom Men Seeking Sub Women, Dom Women Seeking Sub Women, Switches, and all the other potential combinations. You can also filter the ads by region, and reply to anyone that piques your interest, or write an ad for yourself.

But The Cage isn’t only meant for dating and hookups. It’s a more inclusive space where you can share your story, or ask for advice, even play sexy word association games. The Forum is a central location that all users have access to, everyone is free to create a post or comment. It’s a really active part of the site with pages and pages of posts. A perfect place to share an experience and get some perspective or start a general discussion like what does dominance mean to you? Even get book recommendations. Based on the comments section users are very respectful and follow the community guidelines which basically add up to don’t be a jerk!

The Blog is also a really popular feature. Every account comes with your own personal blog space, where you are free to post what you like. Memes, gifs, music, or your creative writing pieces. Similar to feeds on other sites, it’s your personal slice of The Cage to make your own and other users can comment on or heart your posts. If you like a particular user’s blog you can add them to a follow list so you don’t miss anything.

The Live Chat rooms are also a good place to get to know the community a little better. They’re open 24/7 but there’s more activity in the evenings than during the middle of the day. You can hang in the lobby and talk to other users or join a private room for more specific conversation.

Enjoy Curated Content

The Cage also offers a Magazine section. It’s mostly articles written by the staff. There are some helpful tips on getting started on The Cage and a general introduction to the BDSM world. Members can submit articles or stories of their own but right now it doesn’t seem to a very active part of the site.

If you like podcasts, there is a ginormous selection! All related to kink and BDSM. New episodes are added all the time, there’s honestly too much to keep up with it. You have introductory episodes on BDSM terminology, specific fetishes, and more conceptual episodes that discuss topics like the intersection of race, gender, and kink. I shouldn’t be surprised, there’s truly a pod for everything! There’s a lot of really great content, my only issue with the current setup is that you need to stay on the episodes page to continue listening, they don’t just play in the background while you explore the rest of the site.

Premium Access

Everything I’ve mentioned so far is accessible with a free account. With a Premium membership you can unlock more features. It mainly gives you more ways to talk to people. With a free account you can send mail messages to Premium members only, but if you upgrade you can send mail to all users. You’ll also be allowed to send photos to all Cage users. The real benefit is access to Bond, The Cage’s instant messaging system. With Bond you can instant message other Premium members without having to go back and forth to the Mail page. It also unlocks the ability to send voice messages to other Premium users, you can imagine all the ways to have fun with this feature!

Premium membership costs $8 dollars a month or $60 dollars for the year. But there are a couple of other ways to try the upgrade. Invite friends to The Cage using your personal link, and you’ll get one week of Premium for free for every friend that joins! You can also be gifted a membership by other users. And of course we have a special offer for our SGP followers. Sign up for The Cage with our code, “sluttygirl”, and you’ll get 2 weeks of Premium for free! The Cage’s creators and active users really do a great job of making a space that feels welcoming and approachable. I’d recommend the platform to anyone who’s committed to the BDSM lifestyle or deeply interested in learning and exploring. There are lots of ways to connect with people from all over the world. You can make it your own through your profile and blog. Plus enjoy entertaining and educational content from other users and podcasts.
