Yup, I’m a nerd. If I really want to turn myself on, it’s not porn that I go to. I prefer words to visuals. So why am I not just picking up a romance novel or dirty texting my crush, you ask? Well, I’m here to tell you why fanfiction porn is the amazing thing that it is.

1. It appeals to my emotional side.

I know these characters like the back of my hand. It’s almost like having sex with a friend you’ve had a crush on forever; you know them well, you really care about them, and the connection and chemistry is real. In fanfiction, you already love the characters and the world they live in, so the attraction between them feels real to you.

2. Written details get me more than visual ones.

This applies to smut novels, too. Sex scenes are hotter in writing, in my opinion. They leave room for the imagination and as long as the writer isn’t using purple prose (like describing a dick as a member of spear), they give details that porn just can’t provide. I want to know how it feels – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. That can only come across in writing.

3. My favorite ships appeal to what attracts me romantically.

Fandom slang for relationships: a ship is a pairing between two (or more) characters. My favorite ships show me what I like in a relationship. In porn, the most background info we get is “she’s a schoolgirl” or “he’s a pizza boy.” (Not that that’s always a bad thing.) In fanfic, I get to see how Hermione’s no-nonsense attitude and Ron’s sense of humor balance one another out…and how those traits benefit them in the sack.

4. …and they also appeal to my kinks.

Age play turns me on, so I love reading about pairings with an age difference or generation gap. That’s easy to find in porn, but I prefer the written form. It can be hard to find representation of your favorite kink or fetish in romance novels and when I can find what I’m into in an ebook, it’s often poorly written. Which brings me to another reason:

5. Some of the best sex scenes I have read have been in fanfiction.

A lot of fanfic writers really know their stuff. If they just changed some things about their stories around, they could author books! Take E. L. James and the “50 Shades” phenomenon. Her series started out as “Twilight” fanfiction.

6. It’s free.

Romance novels cost money. For the most part, it’s free to read fanfiction. If I don’t like the story I’m reading, I’m not out any money.

7. No one needs to know what you’re reading.

Everyone reads on their phone or tablet nowadays. No one will know if your reading an article, book, or fanfiction, porn or not.

8. It’s really not even embarrassing.

So many people read – and write – fanfic. You might think you’re totally strange for reading Star Wars slash fic. Yeah, you’re a nerd, but most of us are in one way or another. (Poe/Finn is super cute anyway, even if I’m a Rey/Finn shipper.)

9. It fulfills your dreams.

For real. Scully and Mulder have seasons and seasons of sexual tension that’s started to make me frustrated! Fanfiction porn of the two of them satisfies me as both the hopeless romantic and sexual being that I am.

10. It’s fun!

Finally, reading fanfiction, dirty or G-rated, is just so entertaining. I love seeing how people view my favorite characters and who other writers think would be a good couple. Fanfiction smut is geeky, fun and sexy! There’s nothing better than that.
