When I first looked through their site, the Hippocampus Small stood out. It had a totally unique texture with a gradual insertion, which made my vagina much less nervous about putting such a beast inside it. Named after a mythical seahorse… which later named my favorite part of the brain, the Hippocampus brought science to fantasy-cast dildos, all with a gorgeous design and high-quality craftsmanship. I was lucky enough to get the Hippocampus Small, but my mind was blown when Exotic-Erotics sent me the larger Hippocampus Medium (currently named the Small) with a suction cup at the bottom – for hands-free play anywhere. Damn, do they know how to please a toy addict!

After giving the Hippocampus Small a try, and now the Hippocampus Medium – I would be stoked to be a brand ambassador / celebrity endorser of Exotic-Erotics. Size

The design of the Hippocampus Medium is identical to the Hippocampus Small – just BIGGER. A lot bigger. So much bigger that I’m honestly shocked that a “Large” and “Extra Large” size exist. This particular version is the current “Small”, but it will be renamed the “Medium” in June – which seems much more fitting. This is the kind of toy that definitely needs a bit of warm up, unless you’re already used to to larger toys… which I am definitely not. After a solid 30 minutes of working myself up with other toys (gradually), I was able to kind of insert this toy… but even with my best efforts, I could only get halfway up the shaft. At this length, it was pretty shallow, so definitely no where near being able to reach my g-spot. I was also no where near being able to thrust this toy. It was just too big to thrust comfortably for me. I found it was much more pleasurable when I slowly rocked or gently thrusted it, to give me a powerful “fullness” feeling that was much more intense than traditionally thin, non-textured toys. If you’re not used to larger toys and are looking for something to stimulate your g-spot, go with the Hippocampus Small which was really perfect for thrusting. All in all, this is definitely not a toy for beginners – but I would definitely recommend the smaller version instead. The full size chart is shown later, but this picture shows a quick comparison for size.

Texture & Design

I went over the texture of the Hippocampus in depth with my review of the Hippocampus Small – and as I said, the texture is identical, just larger. If you’re a fan of texture, and an incredibly pleasurable design – and definitely the most unique I’ve ever seen. Exotic-Erotics’ toys have incredible detail – and the Hippocampus looks like a mythical work of art that could hang out on my bookshelf, if it wasn’t a dildo. It has soft pointed tip for easy insertion, which gradually moves up to a larger girth, with waves along the top and gentle ribs along the bottom. Usually, this kind of texture would be too much for me, especially with such a large size, but this silicone is a medium firmness – which makes the texture incredibly comfortable as it conforms to your body. If you want to try out texture with even more give, you can get an even softer silicone during the customization process. With this large size, the texture was very pronounced. It was easy to feel each and every wave and rib (that is, for as far as I was able to insert it), but it was gradual enough that it didn’t get uncomfortably caught on my pubic bone. I only with that the girth was a bit smaller toward the base so that I could insert it all the way and hit my g-spot without feeling so stretched. As is, it has a great textured full feeling – but the pleasure just doesn’t reach far enough for me! I can definitely image that this size would be overwhelming for most beginners, and likely not fit if you haven’t gotten used to such a large toy before. So, I would definitely recommend the Hippocampus Small to someone newer to toys or larger sized toys, because that was truly the perfect size for me – easy to thrust, comfortable, and the perfect size for g-spot pleasure.

Material

Exotic-Erotics uses a high-quality, medical grade, platinum-cure silicone that isis 100% body safe, non-toxic, hypoallergenic, phthalate free, odorless, and tasteless… also just happens to be my favorite material for a sex toy! It feels very life-like, with a soft skin-life texture.  The silicone has a matte texture, so there’s a little drag once it’s inserted, and you’ll probably need a hefty amour of water-based lube to get it going. (Remember to never use silicone or oil based lube with silicone toys!)

Like other silicone toys, the Hippocampus can be cleaned simply before and after every use with antibacterial soap and warm water. If you’re looking for a deep clean (especially if sharing between partners) this silicone is dishwasher safe, and boil-able – to assure that it’s totally clean. If boiling, allow to boil in a pot for 3-5 minutes. Don’t use alcohol on silicone toys, as it could degrade the material. A toy-care card is included with the dildo, and a handy pouch for storage!

Colors

Each toy can be made in over 20 colors, including glow in the dark and florescent colors that change under black light. If you have a request for a different color, they can probably make it happen for you. Some dildos come in one color, while others can have 2 colors (one for the shaft, one for the base) or you can have a tie-dye swirl throughout the toy. If you’re not super creative (i.e.: me) or prefer a realistic look, you can choose to have “natural markings” – which makes your toy as it would appear in the wild or mythology.

Firmness

You can also choose your firmness, to fit your body’s preferences. My firmness for the Hippocampus was medium (their most popular firmness) – which was soft, plushy, and pliable but still firm enough to feel each texture It’s also the most popular. Their soft firmness has much more give, but may be too soft to feel the tinier textures. The hard texture is much rougher, with very little give, a lot of texture, and for advanced toy users only. You can also get a dual-firmness, with the head and shaft softer for easy insertion, and the rest firmer for easy thrusting.

Size

You also get to choose the size – small, medium, large, and OH MY GOD HOW WILL THAT EVER FIT (aka: the extra large). If you’re a size queen, you may have just met your match. This particular version is the current “Small”, which will be renamed the “Medium” in June. You may need a bit of warm up before moving on to the medium, but if you’re already accustomed to larger toys, this should be just fine. The updates sizes after the switch will be as follows:

Finally, you can even choose to have it made with a suction cup base, which I totally recommend. I got my Hippocampus with the suction cup – and it’s incredible!! You just put one end down wherever you want to stick it, and slowly squeeze the other end down until it makes a fart-y noise when the air is all out. It’s a VERY strong suction. It will be stuck there until you want to move it – so you can be hands-free while you play, and you can play on anything without it sliding around. When you’re ready to take it off, grip you fingertips under one side, and gently pull until it’s released. Super easy!
