Since I mostly use silicone toys, I prefer lubes that are water-based. (A silicone base with a silicone toy leads to breakdown. No fun!) Because of that, I was excited to try out JO’s Silicone Free Hybrid lube. Why’s is a hybrid, you ask? Well, this lube isn’t just water-based – it’s also made with coconut oil. I put that shit on everything, so why not my sex toys, too? With a sweet scent and options for more variety (JO makes the same lube in heating as well as cooling), JO’s Silicone Free Hybrid Lube might be my new favorite lube.

Sensual Experience
Texture-wise, this lube is just right: not too thick or thin, soft, and just the right combination of wet and slightly sticky. It leaves no residue, and unlike stickier lubes, doesn’t dry up. With a lot of water-based lubes, I usually have to reapply or use water to reactivate the lubricant as a while, but I’ve yet to have to add more when using this during sex or with a toy, which really exceeded my expectations! When I used the Hybrid lube with my partner, it was a completely natural feel. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between what sex feels like when I’m naturally wet and what it felt like with the Hybrid! Because of that authentic feeling, I’d definitely be keen to try the heating and cooling versions to see how they react to my body.
But the feel isn’t the only part of the sensual experience this lubricant provides. It’s a luxurious white, creamy color with a slightly sweet scent from the coconut oil. Nothing overpowering, just subtle tropical goodness. While it’s body safe, this isn’t a flavored lube, so I haven’t tried it during oral and can’t comment too much on the taste. I did try a little and it’s pretty tasteless, so despite the presence of coconut oil, I don’t think it’s necessarily intended to use for the flavor. The scent, look, and feel of it though are perfectly gorgeous!
Use
I have the small size of this lube – 1 oz. – and a little definitely goes a long way. I’ve only used a little more than a pea-sized amount (think the amount of toothpaste used in advertisements cut in half) and I’ve never needed to reapply. It’s just the right texture to evenly spread on my toys, my bits, or my guy. The small bottle is a little difficult to use in the heat of the moment, though. It’s a squeeze bottle and I would definitely prefer if it had a larger opening rather than the pop-up lid variety. Just keep in mind, oil-based lubricants are not compatible with latex condoms, as it can degrade the material.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Body safe
- Subtle, sweet scent
- Natural texture
- Luxurious look and feel
Cons
- For this package size, the lid isn’t my favorite
- Not condom safe
Overall
Look, the worst thing I could say is I dislike the lid. The freakin lid! That’s IT! This lubricant is amazing and I can’t recommend it enough. I haven’t tried it anally yet, and that’s next on my list. With a line full of variety and body-safe products, JO is definitely the brand to check out.
